On our first trip to Alaska we stayed in Anchorage, rented a car, drove to Seward and traveled by rail to Whittier.  The day cruise boat tours of Prince William Sound and the Kenai Fjords was enough to draw us back.... In 2003 we chose a 7 day cruise from Seward, Alaska to Vancouver for less time at sea and more time viewing Glaciers.  Our Alaska vacation included two nights in Anchorage, Alaskan Railroad Grandview Train to Seward, boarded the Island Princess, then to College Fjord, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Vancouver. We rented a one-way car, took a ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor and Orcas, then on to Seattle. In August 2007 we joined family on a ten day voyage of the Dawn Princess.  The longer voyage gives us more time with family aboard ship at sea and the local San Francisco port allows for an economical vacation.  The premium season gave us great weather.  We saw a variety of whales and dolphins.
